We did it, together! In partnership with the Bowling Family, Can'd Aid has reached its fundraising goal for the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project. A true testament to Can'd Aid's "fueled by people power" motto, this project has exemplified the strength of community since its beginning in 2021. While the final donation was made through the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado, countless members of the community, local businesses, foundations and volunteers have contributed to the $1.6 million total raised to bring this project to fruition.

A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting is currently scheduled for 2025, but community build days are expected to be announced early next spring for volunteers and neighbors to help construct playground equipment.

Disclaimer: Funds raised here reflect a $650,000 pledge from the Town of Berthoud and a $200,000 pledge from Schroyer Resources, along with LGI Homes in Colorado, Dream Finders Homes and Post Modern Development.

The Berthoud Adaptive Park Project is an effort to build Berthoud's first public inclusive playground, intended to be a premier destination for children and parents with a wide range of disabilities; ultimately bringing accessibility and inclusion closer to home for many in the mid-northern Colorado area. 9/12/2024| We are honored to have been selected as a grant recipient by NoCo Cares! A special thanks to NoCo Cares for your continued support, giving Lauren and Miles the platform to share their story, and believing in the big dreams of the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project!

7/22/2024| Superstar Can'd Aid supporters, High Country Beverage sponsored a custom permanent lemonade stand for young entrepreneurs to raise funds for future community projects!

6/22/2024| Another successful Lemonade Stand Fundraiser in the books. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the project - we raised over $13,000! 5/29/2024| Can’d Aid hosted a groundbreaking ceremony where members of the press and major donors gathered on-site to celebrate long-awaited movement on a project that truly embodies Can’d Aid’s fueled by people power motto, and is a true testament to the power of community and one family’s quest for inclusive play!

5/28/2024| Larimer County has pledged $50,000 to the project to be used for the Yalp Inclusive Sona Arch!

3/29/2024| We received a $2,500 donation from the PGA Tour!

2/15/2024| The Town of Berthoud’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to use a cap of $650,000 of uncommitted park development and improvement funds toward the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project. Park developer, Schroyer Resources , along with LGI Homes in Colorado, Dream Finders Homes and Post Modern Development , also donated $200,000 - bringing our total raised to over 1.3 MILLION!

1/30/2024| We received another $10,000 donation from High Country Beverage! Thank you for supporting this project (and Can'd Aid) since the beginning!

12/7/2023| Can'd Aid received a $5,000 Scheels Giving Campaign grant!

7/31/2023| THANK YOU to the Berthoud Fire Protection District , the Larimer County Sheriff's Office , the local businesses, and of course, the players, community members, and volunteers that came together to make the 3v3 Basketball Tournament a success!

7/19/2023| Thank you to Berthoud's largest employer, Ursa Major, for their generous donation!

6/12/2023| Our 3rd Annual Lemonade Stand Fundraiser raised $17,000! A true community fueled effort, we are so grateful for everyone who donated their time, prizes and funds to make this event our most successful ever. 4/18/2023| We received a $10,000 donation from High Country Beverage!

2/1/2023| We received a $4,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado!

1/5/2023| We did it! You helped us raise $10,285, far exceeding our $2,500 goal, which was matched by the Arc of Weld County. A HUGE shoutout and THANK YOU to these amazing business owners for embodying Can’d Aid’s Fueled by People Power mentality and showing what the power of community can do!

11/18/2022 | From now until December 31st, all donations up to $2,500 will be matched thanks to a generous match from the Arc of Weld County!

9/18/2022 | Thank you to the Skyline Kiwanis Club of Longmont for their generous $4,000 donation!

9/18/2022 | After winning a cash prize in an art contest, six-year-old artist and entrepreneurial philanthropist, reinvested his winnings to give back in his community! Eli, along with his crew of helpers (brothers, Samson and Ottis, and cousins Jolene and Julia) used the funds to purchase supplies for their own lemonade stand. Ultimately, they raised $144!

8/13/2022 | For her 8th birthday party, fundraiser, philanthropist and all-around kind and generous kiddo, Libby, asked only for donations to the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project instead of gifts. To maximize her fundraising efforts, she also sold snow cones - ultimately raising $1,975! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Libby!

7/17/2022 | Our Lemonade Stand Fundraiser raised $13,000! This was truly a people-powered community effort - thank you to the businesses who donated their products and prizes, and to the individuals who donated their time, prizes and funds to make this event a smashing success! 6/25/2022 | The Berthoud Adaptive Park Project was selected as the highlighted mission for kids attending Grace Place's "Breakaway Camp", where each year, campers participate in a fun competition to raise funds for a chosen cause. This year, they raised $15,000 for our project! Cultivating the next generation of do-gooders and encouraging people powered efforts to give back where you live is what Can'd aid is all about!

5/26/2022 | After reading a news article about adaptive playgrounds, second graders Libby, Kate, and Brooklyn were inspired to raise funds for the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project and hosted a lemonade stand and bake sale - raising nearly $900 and showing the next generation of do-gooders how it's done!

5/19/2022 | Happy 5th birthday to Mack and Miles! Today, we're celebrating the twins, as well as a generous $100,000 donation from Edwards Development!

As part of the Barrett-Jackson car auction, Can'd Aid's Berthoud Adaptive Park Project received $250,000 in one day when a donated 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Custom 6x6, nicknamed "The Savage Bull" sold for $150,000 and was then donated back to sell again for $100,000 more! THE STORY
what if the nearest playground for your child was 40 minutes away?

Lauren + Richard Bowling are the parents of three young children, Braxton (5) and twins Mack and Miles (4). In week 12 of Lauren's pregnancy with the twins, the couple learned that the babies had Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). This led to many more hospital visits, which revealed additional frightening diagnoses and complications, ultimately landing Lauren and Richard in inpatient care at Children's Hospital at 20 weeks.

At 28 weeks, it became clear that the babies had a better shot at survival out than in, and following an emergency C-section, Miles and Mack Bowling were born. However, either in labor or delivery, Miles was without oxygen long enough to result in a traumatic brain injury (Periventricular Leukomalacia) that ultimately led to the development and diagnosis of spastic triplegia cerebral palsy at age two. Though not affected cognitively or verbally, Miles is unable to stand or walk by himself which makes him dependent on a wheelchair for his mobility, freedom and independence.

THE INSPIRATION

The Bowling Family began navigating their new reality with three young children in tow, ultimately moving to an accessible home in the newly developed Farmstead neighborhood in Berthoud, CO - where currently, the closest ADA accessible playground is 40 minutes away, in Fort Collins, CO. With that in mind, Lauren began asking the Farmstead development team about accessibility plans for the neighborhood’s community spaces - particularly the playgrounds; there were none. However, the Farmstead development team was inspired to implement ADA accessible components into the existing playground plans, but discovered the exorbitant cost of adaptive equipment, making it clear that the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project is going to need A LOT of community support - and Can'd Aid is thrilled to be a part of it!

HELP US REACH OUR GOAL!

THE PROJECT

Can'd Aid's Treads + Trails program provides tools and access for underserved populations to live healthy and active lifestyles, which makes the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project a perfect opportunity to listen and respond to one community’s unique needs.

While an accessible park may have been inspired by Miles, the Bowling family, the Can’d Aid team and partners —all big dreamers—envision that this playground be a premier destination for children and parents with a wide range of disabilities and plan to build inclusivity into as many aspects of the park’s development as possible.

Once funds are raised for a few key ADA accessible components, Lauren and the developer will create as many accessible and inclusive options as the budget allows. Can’d Aid is helping organize fundraising efforts, planning to host community events to provide volunteer labor when appropriate, and ultimately assisting Lauren and her family in any way we can to help her reach her goal of bringing accessibility and inclusion closer to home for many in the mid-northern Colorado area.

All funds raised will directly support the addition of accessible features and adaptive equipment for the Berthoud Adaptive Park Project above and beyond the existing park budget. Can'd Aid is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
