The Treads & Trails Program promotes healthy, active lifestyles. We work specifically to get equipment in low income schools to give under-served children the opportunity to get outdoors and play by providing skateboards and bicycles.
The Department of Health and Human Services recommends at least one hour of exercise per day for those between the ages of 6 and 17. In reality, however, the striking majority of America’s youth fails to meet this standard. One study found that just 42% of children and 8% of adolescents get the amount of exercise they need. These numbers drop even lower for underprivileged demographics and minority populations.
Please help us bring Treads & Trails to Norfolk, CT this Fall where Botelle students in grades 1 through 3, as well as any home-schooled children in those grades will be the main recipients for the bike build. Norfolk is a great place to offer this sort of event. Even though there is great wealth in the community, one-third of the households in Norfolk earn less than $45,000 per year and one-third of the students at Botelle are eligible for the free and reduced lunch program. Most children in the US are also not meeting the recommended one hour of exercise per day to keep them healthy and fit. Receiving a new bicycle through this program could provide much needed benefits for many Norfolk children.
Help us reach our goal of raising $14,000 by rallying your friends, family and colleagues today.
Can’d Aid operates under the sentiment that every person has the power to give back and make an impact-- we call this “people powered do-goodery.” Our four program areas promote this do-goodery by providing easily accessible volunteer opportunities that focus on building strong communities, fostering healthy and active lifestyles, providing under-served communities with access to music and arts, and working toward environmental sustainability. Our areas are broad by nature to satisfy community needs.
Thank you for helping grow Can’d Aid’s people powered do-goodery and helping to power a future bike build.
Yes! I want to create a fundraiser to bring Treads & Trails to Norfolk.
